Since voters passed Proposition 1 on Nov. 4, Cedar City officials have received positive feedback for the upcoming Aquatic Center.

Cedar City Manager Ron Chandler said there was a two-thirds affirmative vote for Proposition 1 and since then people have "been pretty positive" about the Aquatic Center.

City councilor Nina Barnes said she has also had positive responses.

"I think most people are all excited for it," she said.

Canyon View High School assistant swim coach Breyde Bentley said the Aquatic Center will be good for the area.

"For the public it will be a great thing," he said.

Bentley said his only concern with the Aquatic Center is the size of the pool.

"The competition pool is inadequate," he said.

Bentley said the competition pool is too small and it will be hard to have practices there and even more difficult to have competitions.

But despite the pool, Bentley said he thinks the Aquatic Center will be great and he likes the design of the center.

Barnes said the Aquatic Center will be started in the spring and will be located across the street from Park Discovery.

Barnes said purchasing the land for the center was the biggest recreation investment Cedar City has done.

She said the center should be done by spring 2010.

Barnes said the center will be a great addition to Cedar City and is a facility that has been needed for about the past 10 years.

She said in the past, SUU has been gracious in sharing the J.L. Sorenson Physical Education Building with Cedar City residents.

When the Aquatic Center opens, Barnes said this will be a way the community can provide something for SUU.

"We (will) have something to share with the university," she said.

Barnes said the center will be good for more than just recreational purposes, it also has other benefits.

"(The center) promotes health and fitness in our community," she said.

Chandler said since Proposition 1 has passed, there haven't been changes to the design of the Aquatic Center.

Chandler said the center will be a nice facility.

"(It) creates a beautiful recreation area," he said.
