The SUUSA Student Activities Board will host the band My Hero at 8 p.m. Wednesday, and election results will also be announced.

Emily Burt, STAB entertainment director, said My Hero was chosen at the Regional West Conference of the National Association of Campus Activities.

Burt said both Preston Pugmire and Sabrina Jalees, who performed this year on campus, were also chosen at the conference.

My Hero is a high-energy band, Burt said. While SUU hosted the Goo Goo Dolls in 2007 and Pugmire in January, Burt said My Hero is a great “in-between.”

“We chose My Hero because we haven’t seen a concert of this caliber done here in recent years,” she said. “The band will be the perfect kick-off for what I’d like to see as a school that supports concerts.”

Activities Vice President Amy Shupe said the band is fun and upbeat.

Shupe said election results will also be announced Wednesday night. She said she hopes the band will bring more students out to hear election results.

SUUSA President Cody Alderson said having an activity to announce the election winners is a great idea.

“Students can come and participate in a great activity,” he said. “And it creates a greater awareness about those students who will be representing the student body in the upcoming year. It is really a win-win situation.”

Concerts bring energy and unity to campus that adds to an essential college experience, Burt said.

Later this year, My Hero will be performing in both Japan and Brazil, according to the My Hero Web site, myherolive.com

In April, STAB will be featuring Sunfest, a culmination of activities leading up to the Thunderbird Awards, Burt said.

The event kicks off with a Rootdown concert on April 14, a “get rec’d” activity night at the Sorenson P.E. Building on April 15 and all-night Relay For Life activities on April 16. Sunfest will conclude on April 17 with the Thunderbird Awards, along with a performance by William Joseph.

STAB is very excited for Sunfest, and hopes students participate in the various activities that will take place, Shupe said.

The My Hero concert will be in the Rotunda and is free for students with I.D.
