The SUU women's golf team secured a 13th-place finish as a team in the BYU Dixie Classic after breaking a tie with Utah Valley University at Entrada at Snow Canyon course,in St. George.
The T-Birds finished at 42-over par Wednesday to finish at a total score of 1,006, and 142-over par. Utah Valley ended up 10 shots behind SUU.
Freshman Sadie Palmer led the way for the T-Birds as she finished in a tie for 41st place, ending with 26-over par for the tournament.
Freshman Kacy Buckner finished second for SUU as she finished in a tie for 43rd, followed by sophomore Candra Sumedhatip in 60th.
Fellow sophomore Morgan Kerber finished in 76th, followed by sophomore Mikayla Williamson in 78th to round out the scoring T-Birds.
The University of Denver won the tournament, with a 13-over par 877, which was 22 shots better than the second-place finish of Colorado State. The host school, Brigham Young University, finished at 70-over par, 934, which was good enough for a sixth-place finish.
The T-Birds came off of a 16th-place finish of an 18-team field at Northern Arizona's Red Rocks Invitational at the beginning of the month.
SUU will have a weekend off before traveling to Chandler, Ariz., for the Cowgirl Classic April 6-7, as the men compete in the Cowboy Classic, both hosted by University of Wyoming. The tournament in Arizona will be the final tournament of the regular season.
The T-Bird women will then have a little more than a week to prepare for their second conference championship tournament.
The T-Birds use the Cowgirl Classic to prepare for The Summit League Championships, which will take place April 20-21 in Rochester, Mich., hosted by Oakland University.
