Police charge Cedar City man for work stabbing

Curtis Lydell Smith, 29, was arrested Dec. 24 on suspicion of attempted murder, a first degree felony. Smith is being held in Iron County Jail without bail.

Cedar City Police Department officers have arrested a man in connection to a stabbing of a co-worker Thursday morning.

According to a statement released by Cedar City Police Department Sgt. JR Robinson, CCPD arrested Curtis Lydell Smith, 29, on suspicion of attempted homicide, a first-degree felony.

The incident happened at the South Central Communications building at 535 S. Main Street at around 11:30 a.m.  

Police said they believe Smith stabbed one of his co-workers, Charles Bradford, twice before leaving the scene.

When officers arrived at the scene, they assisted Bradford’s other co-workers, who were rendering first aid to Bradford.

According to the statement, Smith was located in his vehicle by officers shortly after the incident and that a short vehicle pursuit ensued before Smith was taken into custody.

Iron County Jail records show Smith was booked just after 3 p.m. Thursday afternoon and he was being held without bail.

According to the statement, Bradford was taken to Valley View Medical Center were he was listed in critical condition.
