A fatal car accident involving 15 vehicles occurred Wednesday afternoon between 12:30 and 1 p.m. on I-15 Southbound milepost 35 just south of Cedar City.

There was one confirmed fatality, according to Utah Highway Patrol Public Information Officer Cameron Roden.

Reports said Kristen Kay Taylor, 25, was killed in the wreck and a witness said her boyfriend lost an arm in the crash.

A semi-truck braked to slow down and the car behind it crashed into the trailer of the semi-truck, according to a report. Another car behind the initial car, rammed that car under the trailer, according to a report.

All southbound traffic was routed off the freeway at milepost 57 onto SR-56 westbound, according to a Utah Highway Patrol press release.

Part of I-15 was shut down and remained closed until 5 p.m. Wednesday.

Roden said the bad weather could have been an initial cause in the accident as there was heavy snow to cause poor visibility for drivers.

Roden said public information officers are waiting for updates and further details on whether there are other accident victims with injuries and if there other fatalities.
