The T-Bird men’s and women’s golf teams struggled in their respective competitions over the weekend.

On Sunday, the women’s golf team placed 17th out of 18 teams in the Red Rocks Invitational hosted by Northern Arizona University in Sedona, Ariz.

“This was a very tough field, and while I was disappointed with the way we played Saturday we played much better today,” golf head coach Richard Church said in a press release. “Unfortunately, so did everyone around us in the scoring column.”

The T-Birds shot a 97-over par 673 during the event, one stroke behind fellow member of The Summit League, North Dakota State.

Sophomore Sadie Palmer finished in a tie for 27th place to lead SUU in the two-day event. She shot an 18-over par 162 during the two rounds of play.

T-Bird junior Morgan Kerber and sophomore Mikayla Williamson both finished in a tie for 60th with a 169 during the event.

Tournament host NAU won the event with a 37-over par 613, 60 strokes ahead of SUU. South Carolina Upstate finished 17 strokes behind the T-Birds.

The men’s golf team also did not fare well, placing dead last in the Braveheart Classic hosted by California Riverside Tuesday afternoon in Beaumont, Calif.

“This is an outstanding layout and a very difficult course. This year we have just one player (sophomore Jeff Evans) who had ever seen it before Sunday, and that’s how we played,”

Church said in a press release. “Last year we had some experience, and we played very well but this year it the experience was more of the learning variety for us.”

The T-Birds finished 86 strokes behind the University of Arizona, which won with a 6-under par 858 during the three rounds. The Wildcats were the only team to finish below the course par.

SUU finished with an 80-over par 944, which was 15th of 15 schools and eight strokes behind every school.

Sophomore Jordan Orth shot an 18-over par 234 to lead the T-Birds in his second match since joining the team in January. Evans finished one strike behind Orth.

Both of the team will next compete in the Jackrabbit Innovational on March 15 in Primm, Nev.
