The T-Bird softball team struggled Sunday and Monday, dropping all four games against Nevada-Reno and St. Mary’s.
SUU lost to St. Mary’s 7-2 and 4-3 and to Nevada 11-2 and 7-1 over the two days.
Overall, the T-Birds were outscored 29-8 in the four games.
Wolfpack 7, T-Birds 1
Junior outfielder Jenavieve Purcell drove in SUU’s only run in the game and the T-Birds lost to Nevada 7-1 on Monday.
Three pitchers combined to give up 10 hits and the seven runs for SUU; junior pitcher Katie Kearns picked up the loss.
Gaels 4, T-Birds 3
Junior pitcher Kara Bendt drove in a run in the second inning to break a scoreless tie, but St. Mary’s scored 3 unanswered runs in the next five innings to go into the seventh inning with a 3-1 lead on Monday.
In the seventh inning, freshman catcher Katie Olinger drove in freshman outfielder Whitnie Griffith to close within one run of tying the game.
Freshman utility player Jayli Zingleman then scored on a wild pitch, which tied the game at 3.
However in the bottom of the inning, the Gaels scratched across a run to win the game 4-3.
Wolfpack 11, T-Birds 2
Nevada outscored SUU 9-1 in the opening two innings to pull away to a 11-2 win over the T-Birds in five innings on Sunday.
Purcell went 2-for-3 in the game and drove in SUU’s only runs of the game. Griffith and Bendt scored the two runs.
Gaels 7, T-Birds 2
Junior first baseman Makinna Meeks and freshman outfielder Ariel Morbeck both drove in runs, but SUU lost to St. Mary’s 7-2 on Sunday.
