Updated: Tuesday, February 9, 2010

The proposed changes to the SUUSA Constitution have passed the student body special election, clearing the student government overhaul before the impending general election. Of the only 350 students that voted, 223 voted in favor of the changes and 127 voted against them.

The proposed changes include:

•The SUUSA Clubs & Student Involvement Assembly will become the Clubs & Student Leadership Council, and will no longer be a funding body. Members will be appointed by the SUUSA Executive Council and ratified by the SUUSA Senate.

•The SUUSA Judicial Council will be more independant from other SUUSA bodies and will not attend SUUSA meetings or retreats.

• The SUUSA Senate will  have one senator per college instead of two. A senator to represent the School of Continuing & Professional Studes will be reinstated.

A detailed outline of the changes as well as the revised constitution can be found at suu.edu/suusa.

Students can vote in the special election at secure.suu.edu/suusa/elections/votingsys/.
